Forgotten Soldiers and their descendents
Chinese school
PuMen (普门) Junior High School is located at Lao Liu Zai (老刘寨), 1200M above sea level in Mae Fa Luang district. It provides Chinese & English learning from kindergarten to junior high. The school is opened to all children(Chinese, Akha, Lahu, Lisu and other minorities) in the village and surrounding villages.
Students have to go to Thai school for obligated education in the daytime till 4.00pm. After school, they attend to PuMen from 5.30pm to 8.30pm for Chinese & English lessons.
Owing to the mountainous terrain and material scarcity, the shortage of teaching materials, teachers and classrooms, the schools has always been dependent on outside help in carrying its mission of cultural preservation and linguistic transmission. It receives no Thai government funding and is supported entirely by donation and grants. Its teachers earn less than half the salaries paid in the Thai state education system.
The school committee is looking for donations to replace the broken roof which was damaged by ice cube and computer for school children and teachers. At last, volunteer is also welcome to provide short term teaching service in Chinese and English. |
